Teams drawing checkpoints. Photo: Andreas Strand This year Icebug24 has drawn 45 teams to start, 15 teams more than last year. This years competion has teams from 7 different nations and favorite team comes for Russia. This years competion starts besides Kråkberget in Boksjödalen, approximately 50 km southeast of the finish in Hemavan. During 24 hours the teams should to visit as many checkpoints as possible on their journey to Hemavan. 18 of the checkpoints is placed around Ryfjället/Stor-Stalofjället, 4 on Geavhtafjället, 1 on Laxfjället and the remaining 10 checkpoints on Norra Storfjället, spread between Solberg and Klippen. If any team will be able to take all the 33 checkpoints they will be covering a distance on 130 k birth-flight and a couple of thousands positive height meter. This years favorite team for the victory is team Omega-NN with Evgeny Dombrovskiy and Oleg Kalinin whom both is very expirienced and merited in 24 h rogaining. The team has been competing since 2005. Evgeny Dombrovskiy won the World Championships in 24h rogaining 2008. The team has also won the European Championships in 24 h rogaining both 2006 and 2007. This team has the ability to stand on top of the podium on the end of this race. Among the swedish teams, team Glommershus is one of the favorites with Johan Samuelsson and Mikael Kristensson. Mikael Kristensson has won the Junior World Championships in orienteering 2006 and he won the Nordic Championships in 2007 in long- and middledistance. The team finished second on BAMM 2009 and Johan won BAMM 2008 together with Björn Rydvall. This team will definitely be competing for the first place. Daniel Hansson skilled ICEBUG24 competitor. Foto: Andreas Strand Daniel Hansson will compete with Kristin Larsson on this years competition. Kristin has previously won the mix class on ICEBUG24 the latest three years together with Andreas Strand, IKSU Multisport. Daniel won ICEBUG24 2007 and 2008 together with Johan Hasselmark. This team is of course the favorite team in the mix class and they are also one of the favorite teams for the first place all in all. The first team is expected to reach the goal outside Hemavans Wärdshus approximately 11 am on saturday and then teams will be arriveing until 2 pm when the goal will close. The goal area is arranged together with the running competition "Fjällvindenterrängen". Icebug24 will be sending live thrugh the Internet. We will be posting pictures and interviews from the goal area on saturday with start from Saturday 10:30 am. Follow us here to keep you posted. |
